Welcome to Reaside Academy

Reaside became an Academy on the 1st December 2012 and a member of the Education Central Multi Academy Trust which is part of Wolverhampton University. Generations of families have entrusted the education of their children to the school. As a junior school with a maximum of 240 pupils, the children develop excellent relationships both within their peer group and throughout the school.

The school is set in beautiful countryside next to the Waseley Hills and has delightful grounds, accommodating pupils from Year 3 through to Year 6 (ages 7-11).

Our aim as a dedicated, talented team of staff, who are supported by a Governing Body and PTA is to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ status for this school.  We reflect this in our school motto ‘Learning and Achieving Together’.

Curriculum

Our core values include – aspiration, courage, creativity and kindness – these underpin our curriculum and classroom culture.  We have made creativity a priority to ensure we provide a language-rich environment.

Our school’s mission is to ensure that all children feel safe, happy and are confident, well-educated and prepared for today and in the future, and every decision we make about our curriculum has been based around how we achieve our mission.

Expectations are extremely high so that we can give our children the best chance at academic success – which we define by being well educated. We ensure we think carefully about transitions from one key stage to the next to ensure children are well prepared for each stage of their education.

Enrichment opportunities are at the heart of our curriculum and each half term every class has a trip, visitors, curriculum workshop, focus weeks and parent engagement activities which enable our children to experience the world they live in through exciting and memorable ways.

Pupil Voice

To ensure that Reaside meets the needs of its pupils, they must be partners in the decision making process. We feel it is important that their voice is heard and that they have a say in how the school develops.

Our school Council is elected by their peers and the team focus on raising money for school projects or charities and sharing ideas on how to enhance the school environment.

The Green Team are our eco-warriors and have been awarded the Eco-schools bronze award for making the school eco-friendlier and bringing global issues into the curriculum.

Our Junior Safety Officers help to ensure that all pupils are safe in school.  They work alongside our Site manager as well as meet with Health and Safety Representatives from Elite Safety who give them ideas on how to improve safety in and around the school.

The Ambassadors at Reaside Academy must lead by example at all times in their behaviour, the respect they show to others and their school uniform. An Ambassador’s role is varied and to be awarded a school Ambassador badge is considered to be a real privilege.

Ambassadors are responsible for supervising younger pupils at break times / lunch times and undertaking various duties in and around the school. Through their duties they develop such skills as assertiveness, punctuality and responsibility.

As part of our citizenship education, we believe that children need to experience duties and responsibilities that come with being a member of a community in order to help them prepare to play an active role as citizens.

Environment

At Reaside Academy, we are committed to providing our children with the education they need to become confident, articulate, independent learners and thinkers who are ready to take their place in the demanding world of the 21st century. Through the provision of high quality learning opportunities both in the classroom and outside, we demonstrate our determination to create active, healthy and informed citizens of tomorrow.

Reaside is located in beautiful countryside and we take great pride in our school environment.  We value the benefits of outdoor learning and how it is a great stimulant for exploration and experimentation through hands-on real life experiences.

Our New Build

We are currently looking forward to a complete re-build. Building and enabling works will be starting in July on our exciting, new building (PSBP2 – Priority Schools Building Programme) – to be ready in 2019! Much planning and discussions between the EFA (Education Funding Agency), Arcadis (our building contractor) and the school will mean a purpose built, 1 storey building which will accommodate our four forms of entry (year 3 to 6), whilst also serving the community. Watch out for the ‘New Build’ page coming soon on our website for up-dates.

Community

At Reaside, we are very proud of the strong links that have developed between parents and the school. We welcome parents’ views and support and have an open door policy, ensuring they are partners in shaping their children’s futures by being involved in their child’s education every step of the way.

Parent workshops are a regular feature of our work and we also have lots of parents who support the school. Regular coffee morning for parents help us get to know how parents are feeling and there is a parent group – ‘The Friends of Reaside’ or PTA - who actively support the school in a multitude of ways.  Our Special Education Needs Lead, Family Support Worker, Designated Liaison Person, Learning Mentors, Sports Coach and School Nurse provide enhanced support for pupils’ personal development, behaviour and welfare.  These staff members help to ensure the overall health and well-being of all the pupils in the school.

We are proud of the excellent relationships that exist between staff and pupils. Tolerance, respect and understanding are cornerstones for the strong relationships that exist. Parents, Governors and PTA members work in partnership with the Academy, as critical friends, in order to ensure that the young children of our community enjoy the highest standard of education

We are proud to be a community school which is extremely inclusive. We expect nothing less than exemplary pupil behaviour and we very much believe in the Academy motto “Learning and Achieving together”. Values of courtesy, discipline and respect are important to us and we believe that upholding them will help us to achieve results for all at Reaside Academy.
